I started researching our family history in 1981. While drinking a cold Aussie beer on a warm sunny day; I sat with my Grand Mum, (Catherine Webb) in her backyard at 61 Watson Road in Bondi, and listened to her stories of my deceased Father, (Jim Webb), my deceased Grand Father (Cecil Webb), the Webb family and Grand Mum's family - (nee Robertson's) from Perthshire, Scotland.
A few hours later, I realized I should be taking notes. So I did! I took notes on scrap pieces of paper, napkins and anything I could get my hands on. For years I jotted down stories from other family members and tried to learn as much about my family history from the family elders. I wrote everything I could about my family and stuffed it all inside a binder, promising myself, that one day I would put all the pieces of the puzzle together for future family members. Little did I know that I would one day be able to record everything on a web site so every family member could see. So here it is - the beginning, the middle, but hopefully, never ending. I pray that our family will continue to grow and appreciate our history.
From the English shores to the unchartered penal colony of Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania); from seven small Aeolian islands off the coast of Sicily across the world to Sydney, Australia, our family spans two continents and numerous countries, sharing five core family names: Webb (via England), Robertson (via Perth, Scotland), Lo Schiavo - sometimes Loschiavo, sometimes Losh - (via Salina, Italy), Cassera (via Northern Italy), and Fleury (via the Channel Islands of France thru Ireland). Our family may have started out with few names but today . . . . . . there are many names.
